Generator Rental Dubai — Per-Day and Monthly Prices by kVA (2026)
Generator rental in Dubai ranges from around AED 150 per day for a small 20 kVA unit to AED 1,500+ per day for a 500 kVA site-power generator. The two big variables are kVA rating and whether you need a silent (canopied) unit. Here's how to size and price it.
Generator rates by kVA
Generators are priced by power output in kVA (kilovolt-amperes). The bigger the load you need to run, the higher the kVA, and the higher the rate. UAE market ranges as of 2026:
| Size (kVA) | Typical use | Daily (AED) | Monthly (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20-30 kVA | Small site, tools, lighting | 150-300 | 2,500-4,500 |
| 60-100 kVA | Mid site, mixed loads | 300-550 | 5,000-9,000 |
| 125-250 kVA | Large site, tower cranes, multiple loads | 550-1,000 | 9,000-18,000 |
| 400-500 kVA | Major site power, full construction load | 1,000-1,700 | 18,000-32,000 |
Most construction-site generators are diesel. Fuel is almost always the customer's responsibility. Silent (canopied/sound-attenuated) generators — required near occupied buildings or in noise-restricted zones — typically carry a 10-20% premium over open units of the same kVA.
How to size your generator
Under-sizing means the generator overloads and trips; over-sizing means you waste money on fuel and rental. The basic approach:
- List your loads: Every motor, tool, light, AC unit, and crane that will run on the generator.
- Sum the running watts: Add up the continuous power draw of everything running simultaneously.
- Add starting surge: Motors (cranes, pumps, compressors) draw 2-3x their running power at startup. Account for the largest motor's surge on top of the running total.
- Add headroom: Size up by ~25% so the generator runs at 70-80% load, not maxed out. Generators run most efficiently and last longest at this range.
Fuel — the dominant running cost
Diesel is the biggest ongoing expense. Approximate consumption at 75% load:
- 60 kVA: ~10-13 L/hour
- 125 kVA: ~22-28 L/hour
- 250 kVA: ~45-55 L/hour
- 500 kVA: ~90-110 L/hour
At UAE diesel around AED 3.10/L, a 250 kVA generator running 10 hours a day burns roughly AED 1,500-1,700 in fuel daily — often more than the rental rate itself. On a month-long job, fuel can be 2-3x the generator rental cost. Budget for it explicitly.
Delivery, connection, and other costs
- Delivery/collection: AED 300-800 within Dubai for smaller units, more for 250 kVA+ which need a truck with a crane or forklift to position.
- Cabling: Distribution cables and a changeover panel may be extra if not included — confirm.
- Servicing: Long-term rentals usually include scheduled servicing in the rate; confirm who handles oil and filter changes.
- Fuel tank / bowser: For larger generators, an external fuel tank may be needed; some come with belly tanks of 8-24 hours capacity.
Questions to ask before renting
- Is the unit open or silent (canopied)? Does your site have noise restrictions?
- What's the fuel tank capacity and runtime before refuelling?
- Who handles servicing on a long-term rental?
- Are distribution cables and a changeover/distribution panel included?
- Is the generator Civil Defense compliant if your project requires it? (See our separate guide.)
- Is VAT included in the quoted rate?
