Trench & shoring — FAQ

At what depth is shoring required in the UAE?
In Dubai a protective system is mandatory for any excavation deeper than 1.2m. Abu Dhabi requires protection above 1.2m too. Beyond ~3m, an engineered shoring design is typically required.
How do I calculate excavation volume?
Volume = length × width × depth, in cubic metres. A 20m × 1m × 2m trench is 40m³.
How many shoring panels?
Roughly: face area = length × depth per side, doubled for both walls, divided by one panel's face area. Exact count depends on the system, soil and depth — confirm with the supplier.
Shoring vs sloping vs trench box?
Shoring supports walls with panels and struts; sloping cuts walls back to a safe angle; a trench box shields workers inside. The right method depends on depth, soil and space.

Disclaimer: This calculator provides indicative volumes and a rough shoring-panel estimate for planning only. Trench safety is governed by Dubai Municipality / DUSUP, Abu Dhabi ADPHC and related regulations, and excavations require assessment and design by a competent person. The depth thresholds shown are general guidance, not a compliance determination. Never enter an unprotected trench. Confirm all shoring design and quantities with a qualified engineer and your supplier.
